a draft upon a particular account in a bank, in which the drawer or maker (the person
who has the account and signs the check) directs the bank to pay a certain amount
to the payee (which may include the drawer, "cash," or someone else). Other checks
include cashier's checks issued by the bank for a sum paid to the bank, and certified
checks in which the bank sets aside an amount from the maker's bank account and
then guarantees the check can be cashed immediately.
